About a year ago I was sent off alone to Manipur, Northeast India. In search of stories that have never been heard before. What people don't realise is that there lies a story behind every great story that's ever told. There are over 3000 floating homes on #loktaklake, where daily living means a life where you literally walk upon water. On a small wooden canoe I wandered aimlessly on #loktaklake. The fisherfolk living on the floating homes are ready to safeguard the lake at any cost, even a naive writer like me looked like a threat to them. The erratic rains made the elaborate schedules and shoots impossible. Riding around the islands in the freezing winter relying on strangers & locals help had become my daily routine. Where clean water or electricity is inaccessible. Taking police permissions with the production crew growing weary and I was running around in circles going back and forth across the length and breadth of the State, to a point where the locals started doubting my sanity. Several days of living on the lake and losing myself in the deepest corners of Loktak Lake, I found a Goddess. Emoinu, the Goddess of Loktak Lake. Many misadventures later I'm now I'm search of a new muse, and yearning to explore again . Ready to hit the road. Raffles first caught the snorkelling bug in the northern end of the Great Barrier Reef and is so excited to be heading back to explore more of its underwater magic in the Whitsundays that he's just about sleeping in his goggles in anticipation. I hope my wee water baby Sugarpuff loves it as much as my boy fish

Photograph by @andyparkinsonphoto/@thephotosociety Puffin in thrift – LAST TWO PLACES! This is a shout out to anyone who might be interested in travelling with me to photograph puffins and numerous other bird species this coming July 8th-15th. With just two places left on my Shetland Photo tour this will be the last chance for a few years to travel with me to this remote archipelago as I won’t be running this trip next year due to other commitments. Shetland is a place that I know uniquely well having spent multiple summers there working #onassignment for @natgeo as I completed my story for them on the Northern gannet. For more information please email me at tours@andrewparkinson.com and come and see sights like this beautiful puffin for yourself. I’ll be your guide for the whole week as we explore many of Shetland’s most remote islands and spectacular coastal seabird colonies. This image was taken there a few years ago and whilst it’s a relatively straightforward image of this iconic bird it is enhanced by the rich and varied colour palette of pink coastal thrift, yellow lichen coloured rocks and the deep blue of the distant ocean. It was at this time of year when I was packing up the last few bits of my camping and abseiling equipment, my camera equipment 3 miles away in my car, that I looked down toward the base of cliffs and saw a large pod of killer whales. With no camera equipment to hand my only option was simply to sit and watch, one of the most spectacular highlights of my time there as the pod contained a full family group of large males, females and calves. To sit on a remote cliff top in the UK and to witness such a wildlife spectacle, here in the UK, is a fitting reminder to why these islands will always be one of my favourite wildlife destinations. This is Sharon Whitehair with her beloved peach tree, planted behind her #mobilehome. Whitehair was a recently divorced single mother of two young boys when she moved into Pioneer Village. She was cleaning houses, mowing lawns, doing any kind of work she could find, and taking in maybe $14,000 a year. Before some friends bought the mobile home for her, she was bouncing between the couches of two different friends with her boys. The lot rent back in 1998 was $280 a month. “That was just about the only housing I could afford,” she said. Whitehair was part of a group of residents organizing to try to buy the park for themselves when it was sold to a national company that owns and manages mobile home parks around the country. The new owner installed water meters on each unit, and the rates are higher than those charged by the local water district. More significantly, the change underscored the fundamental insecurity of the residents’ position. She’d like to see state law change to give residents first right of refusal when parks are sold.
